hi i have a 90 hp force engine which i think it is a 92. this past summer we was out on the lake and ever time we turned the boat off so the person could get back on the tube or even to get in the boat, i mean if we had ran the baot for hours and just turn it off and tried to start again it will just crank and crank crank and finally it will start we have to even choke it. could someone tell me what todo before i spend alot of money on it. when it does start if runs strang and fast but just hard to get started...thanks alot

... i would check the primer bulb make sure it stays firm, give it a couple squeezes to make certain prior to restarting... check your plugs for fouling... pull the cowling off and try to start it without it, if it fires right up your seaping exhaust into the cover... dont keep cranking that starter, short bursts of say 10 secs max. those cables get hot on continual crank!

good luck

Have you changed your plugs lately? If you have, then I suggest the following.

1. Do a Decarb in accordance with the sticky that gives the procedure.
2. If this doesn't work, remove the carbs, clean, rebuild and readjust.

Re: 90 hp force hard to start

Before you start throwing parts at this motor, run a few common sense tests.

Test Compression
cyl pressures dropping as low as 100 or below make it difficult to start

Test Spark
Orange spark is weak and contributes to hard starting

Test Cranking RPM
Minimum 300 rpm necessary to generate sufficient voltage for the ignition to function

If ALL these pass AND the spark plugs are in good shape then grab onto a factory manual and start checking out Ignition timing
