I have a 1985 Evinrude 90 h.p. VRO. The VRO system has been bypassed. The motor still has the VRO type fuel pump but the oil inlet is plug and the electical connection is disconnected.

I am having a fuel starvation problem. I have replaced the fuel tank and fuel line, so that is not the problem. I have checked the fuel filter in the engine. That is not the problem. Next in line is the fuel pump. How do I check this? I have no service manual (although I have ordered one). If the fuel pump is bad, should I replace it with a non-VRO pump? I don't mind mixing oil in my gas and want to save $$ on the repair.

Coop

Re: 90 H.P. VRO - Fuel Starvation Problem

Coop: Am replacing my VRO as had same starvation problem, gasket on pump leaks and lost prime. If I squeezed bulb gas bubbled out gasket. Replacing VRO with pump, whole different setup. Am doing this weekend will let you know as manual does not tell how to replace with non VRO.Hard to find new VRO but pump half the price of new or you could get it rebuilt ,check forum website for rebuilder Bill
