Sorry if this has been covered, have read here for days and can't find same exact probelm listed - have also spent days (literally) trying to access the 'stuart' info site but no luck, apparently that link is permantely dead.
Just got a 1990 Donzi FL-120 w/ 3.0 GM engine and an OMC Cobra outdrive/lower - Did a minor engine tune up (Plugs, Fuel Filter, Dist Cap/Rotor, Etc...) and motor kicks right on, runs great, etc...
1st trip out fishing ran fine all day, came to dock, went to nuetral then reverse to slow, boat now shifts to reverse no matter WHICH DIRECTION you throw the shifter lever.
Did a visual on it in the engine compartment, 'top of motor shifter mechanics bracket' where the throttle cables terminate seems to be going back and forth just fine as far as SHOWING it should shifting both forward and reverse but as mentioned, drive/prop ONLY goes into reverse when in the water, yet it DOES go into forward WOT??
If it helps any the outdrive is the 'flat top' OMC cobra style, meaning the gears are in the lower end from what I've read.
Cables SEEM to be operating correctly but then again what do I know...
Worst part is I can't seem to find a single person in this area that's willing to work on it (At least not any that seem to already know about these older Cobra shifters and drives) and as someone mentioned - If they don't appear to already KNOW don't let them touch it, right?
So looks like I'll be teaching myself - Any help or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!
*(Already bought/have the manual, online manual download and disk load for this unit/boat/engine/drive but don't know where to even start with this mess)
