Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and new to boating as well. I picked a 14 aluminum seaking, with 9 hp seaking motor. We want to give the motor a test via trashcan/water soon. If I had to guess, this set up is probably from the early to mid 60's. Does anyone know what gas/oil mix I should use?

Also, we haven't had much luck finding a manual for the motor, does anyone have any suggestions on where something that old might be found, if at all?

Thank in advance for any help!

I don't think you will find a factory manual there.
You may find a generic manual covering outboards under 30 hp.
Guessing it is a Westbend or Chrysler built motor around a 65. water cooled.
If you get us the model number we can date it and determine the brand.
a 65 is a Westbend mix is 16:1,66,67 is Chrysler 24:1 I couldn't find Chrysler based
66 or 67 Sea King 9. 69 was a 9.2.

Re: 9 hp seaking motor

The only number i could find was located on the tilt mechanism. That number is 197032-1. The moter is labeled as a "wards Seaking -9"

Is there another place where the model number is usually located?

Take the hood off of the motor and look on the inside of the Case. My 9.6 Sea King has the Model and serial #'s on the left rear(as you are looking straight on at the front of the motor) inside the case. You should find a model # with the serial. It will be something like a VWBXXXXX or a KTVXXXXX the model # will get you the info you need. Here is a link to a chart site for Sea Kings http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ob_sea_king.html To the Mods, sorry if this seems like competition I simply posted it so he can find the make and model of this motor.

Dave
Thanks so much for the guidance! We did find the the numbers...and we actually got the motor running! We believe that it likely went through a rebuild, all components look really new. We just need to confirm the gas mix and we should be good to go. Model #VWB10978A Serial #66X 12977

I do have another question, if you or anyone else can answer...

There is a lever that controls something...it can be set to lean, idle or rich. I'm not familiar with this at all...what does this control, what should it be set at when running??
