Hi,
I am at the lake on a remote cabin and my 9.9 Yamaha died on me. And I cannot start it. I still have electric trolling motor, so this is not an emergency.
It's been running fine, but before it died it made a !clunk!, I throttled it down, it kept idling, then made a couple more clunks and stopped. I tried to restart, but could not pull the cord. Prop is place, I can spin it manually in Neutral. Cooling system worked till the last moment. What could it possibly be?
Everything looks fine under the hood. Unless it is a recoil assembly internal event. Any advice and ideas are welcome and appreciated. Regards, Rusty.

Remove spark plug and try to pull it….
Just did it. Nope, did help. But I managed to "hack" the ratcheting mechanism and pulled the cord all the way without spinning the flywheel. I pulled it out afew times and every time it is getting sucked in with no issues. I just cannot crank the engine
