If you've read my last two posts you know that I have been debating over whether or not to buy a 15 hp force (used). I used the serial number today and discovered that the engine is a 96 model 9.9 that obviously has been converted since purchase. I ran the engine and it runs better than any 9.9 i've ever been in. Is this as good as a factory 15 hp? Should i have any concerns? Or should i shut up and buy the engine? Any advice, experience, etc appreciatted. Thanks to all.

Stream_fisher

Re: 9.9 to 15 hp conversion

The carb is bigger on the 15. I looked up the serial number of the motor you were talking about and that seemed the only difference. It will spin @ 6,000 RPM to get this HP rating. The engines are identicle otherwise. Mercury parts site treats it as a 9.9 or 15 HP in the same parts description with the carb being the only variation. SO...its a 15 now!

Sounds like a winner to me. I;m glad to hear that you've had such success out of yours. Hopefully the same will come from this one.
