So I've been thinking about trying the 9.9 to 15 conversion on my '89 9.9SF outboard.

So i followed this link from another forum http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/parts/home.aspx and put in the info... Did a bunch of searching through the parts, and came up with one main difference - the intake carb. (you can get straight to the list here, http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/1989/9.9SF/INTAKE CARBURETOR/parts.html)

So starting from the bottom, I have the Main jet (#21), the main nozzle (#13) and the jet pilot (#12). The two jets, it appears that they are just different sized holes ( 52-->56 pilot and 104-->136 main). So question #1 is does any one know what these numbers represent?? I did some googling and one person thought they were a metric size (104 would equal 1.04 mm and so on) while another thought they had to do with how many ml of fuel could pass through them in 1 minute (which seems a little odd, so there would be a pressure variable there as well). I'm asking because I'm hoping to save a little coin by simply modifying the two I have instead on buying two new ones.

Question #2 is if anyone has any idea what the difference between the main nozzle might be (carb newbie if you can't tell). Again, some other forums have suggested that some can be "adjusted" in various ways, and I'm again hoping I can do that instead of buying a new one.

Continuing up the list, #11 is the whole carb assembly (or so I believe), and although it would be much easier, it would interfere with my whole save money attempt. #3 and #4 are gaskets unique to the 9.9, which I already have, and believe I will be getting rid of them... Right?? Still not sure why there would be gaskets in a 9.9 but not a 15....

And finally we get to Question #3... #1 - Reed Valve Assembly and #2 - Reed Set... will I need both of them, or does one include the other??? I would think that the Assembly would include the reeds, but based in the diagram, it looks like the reed set includes he triangular thing they bolt in to.... I just want to get everything I need with out buying things I don't need.

Sorry for the ramble, and thanks for any help!!

Re: 9.9 to 15 help

Not sure what all parts need to be changed, but the jet # are not MM.
You can confirm that by finding drill bits or some other small rods as close to the mm size of you jet, and insert into the jet hole. I am sure it will not match up.
