Stream fisher and i have been working on his 9.9 and we have been pretty successful until now. We performed a compression test and got 120 psi on the top and 155 psi on the bottom so we were going to inspect the pistons. We have removed the head and the tops of the pistons are black and have carbon deposits built up. We then removed the six bolts holding the powerhead to the exhaust housing. But this has proved to be a problem, the powerhead and the exhaust housing are inseparable. Please help

Hi Bass man
Is powerhead stuck solid, or is it loose but won't separate?

Hi Bass Man and Stream Fisher !

Are you sure you got alle the bolts out, this baby has bolts both in the back and under the motor bracket, bracket must be removed from leg before you can get powerhead off, it is not as the larger motors.

Or it could sound as the drive shaft is stuck in the crankshaft. Try to wrinckle a with it, maybe it will loosen.

Did you consider a decarb treatment? Just wondering why you're pulling the powerhead.

Re: 9.9 rude problems

we got the powerhead off with the help of a screwdriver and a big hammer. We were opening it up to check out the condition of the pistons in hopes of discovering the cause of the difference in compression between the top and bottom cylinders. Once we opened it up there were no obvious deformities in the cylinder walls or pistons. We're hoping take care of the compression difference with a new set of rings. any suggestions?
