Up untill about 95' the 6, 8, and 9.9 were the same displacement, the 15 was larger. After 95' the 9.9 displacement was increased to be the same as the 15.

On the 90 and 115 J/Es there were more differences than just the carb to increase the HP.

Hi thanks for that information, I'm still trawling through the parts lists for the 8hp. but that makes sense.

The 1995 J/E motor I have is actually a 9.9 and it had a small diameter venturi (and jets/orifice etc) some of the earlier ones had a bigger 15hp carb fitted with a restrictor plate to reduce the venturi to give 9.9hp, mine had a different carb. The other parts are all the same, reeds, exhaust tube etc, according to most sources. The previous 1978 15hp Johnson I had was different in a few ways. I don't know about the 90 /115 though.
