Hey all im thinking about buying a 9.9 from the mid 90s sometime. Its a long shaft. The motor looks in very good shape on the pics and the owner said he will run it for me. I will be bringing my compression reader with me. I know each cyl should be within 10% of eachother...Whats a good number for this size motor? Dont know much about the mercs or mariners. Been a johnnyrude guy. These a good little motor? Wish I had a model number for you guys.

Anything over 100 psi should be good -- hgiher the better provided the engine isn't loaded up with oil to mask the reading. Like anything -- whether or not it's a good engine depends on how it was cared for.
