9.9 HP Yamaha gets no power in reverse

Hello,

Recently the 9.9 HP Yamaha OB I have on my sail boat has zero driving power in reverse. Forward works as it should but no drive whatsoever backwards.

I looked at the shifting cable and its connections are good and fully engages the lever. I know next to nothing about boat motors; but I tried shifting it into gear with the motor off and in forward the prop doesn’t spin but in reverse it spins freely; based on some internet reading this leads me to believe it’s a spun prop but I don’t see how it could be spun in reverse and not in forward. I’m pretty perplexed on this and any help would be appreciated.

I would think from what you wrote, it is not going into reverse, so you will need to find out what in the linkage or the lower unit is not doing what it should be doing.

Oh yea it would help if you tell what 9,9 the motor is

It’s a 2009 T9.9LL.

No, I’m On the north coast of Washington, although it’s very possible to motor was purchased in Canada since me and the prior owner are within 30 minutes of the border; although I just bought the boat and am not certain on the provenance of its parts.

Is this OB not available in the states?

Boscoe will drop by and tell what USA model is the same as yours or at least real close

but you will still need to find what is not doing what it should be doing to get the lower unit into reverse
