9.9 Honda mystery piece

Hi,

My 9.9 Honda (2000) works great but when the engine is tilted up and turned so that the carb is down, it leaks gas out of the carb. The gas is leaking through a small diameter (1/8" or so) stainless steel shaft that rises vertically out of the top of the carb. The rubber bellows that seals the stainless shaft has cracked and failed but I can't find this part on any of the carb parts diagrams. I'd be grateful for any help identifying this part and part number.

My 1991 8HP Honda does not have anything like that. When I looked at the parts explosion for the 2000 9.9, it looks very much like my carb. But the 2001 is different - is it possible you actually have a 2001? That shows something roughly like what you describe, called the "starter valve set". Search for that and look at photos and see if it looks like your part.
