I need some help...

I have no water exiting the outboard, took the water pump apart (it was destroyed) and replaced it. Now there is still no water... I think the remains of the water pump impeller are in the engine.....

Does anyone have any ideas on how to ensure I have clean water passages? I don't want to overheat it.

Nissan 9.8 ~4 years old.

Thanks in advance...

Re: 9.8 no water tail

If your motor can take a flushing plug attachment I would first try garden hose pressure to see if you can get circulation. The 'earmuff' style flusher may work as well but a threaded hose adaptor is best. Check the owners manual to see if it is OK to run the engine with flushing setup - that is the best way to check.

Is the water INTAKE port blocked maybe? no water in = no water out, that would also explain the destruction of the old impeller (and the new one too unfortunately.)

Are you positive you did not install the impeller backwards? Not familiar with this model but the Evinrude impeller I last did was a rubber flapper wheel style that could have easily been twisted into position with the 'S' shapes the wrong way.

I was almost positive that I installed it properly but obviously am willing to remove and reinspect for that reason.

any other suggestions on how to ensure that there are no blockages, tricks of the trade, anything is appreciated

Drop the lower unit back off, then blow compressed air back through the prop hub or one of the exhaust ports.
