9.8 merc half power under load

i have a 9.8 mercury thunderbolt s/n 7084063, not sure what year it is but would like to know if possible.<br /><br />The problem is it works fine in the test tank but when i put it on the boat and go for a ride, i can't get full throttle out of it.<br /><br />It idles fine but when i twist the throttle it will run at low rpm and only low rpm even with the throttle fully twisted.

jb, i did a search on 9.8 mercs and found 20 questions but none with my problem

I think part of what JB was suggesting was to this thread to the Motors board since it really relates to the motor itself.<br /><br />BL...

amplex, just wondering if you ever found out what your problem was, sounds like the problem Iam having with my motor.

marvler: Yes i did find the problem, as it turned out it was one faulty spark plug wire. I replaced it and the motor runs great again
