I got a bunch of fishing line around the shaft behind the prop. It began a leak. the motor has less than 20 hours on it. I was able to pull out at least 3 feet of line but the leak is still there. I can not find any local mechanics who will work on this. Is there any shop I can ship the shaft assembly to that will do the repair and mail me back the assembly?

It is not the rear rubber seal but the "joint" seal mid shaft that is losing the oil

Thanks

It's a job any OB mechanic can do. Any Tohatsu/Nissan/Mercury dealer will be able to help you. What is the "joint seal"? You can always send the LU to any Tohatsu/Nissan dealer for service. What is your ZIP code?

thanks, 84660 is the zip. So far the only dude on the Nissan web site is not returning my calls and the other two I talked to said keep lookin we don't work on those. I made up the term joint seal. But there is a main seal for the shaft assembly that sits back in the housing. that one is fine. It is where the shaft spins against a not moving sheathe. I can take a photo when I get home if you like. Great forums!!

The LU on the 9.8 isn't mysterious; There is a seal for the drive shaft, and one for the prop shaft. There are also o-rings for the shifter cam rod, and the prop shaft housing:
