As stated above, I have a 1969 9.5 hp Johnson short shaft. It will only seem to run on one cylinder unless you squeze the gas line and then it will run like a sewing machine until it runs out of gas. Any ideas?? Has been used very little over the past 40 years which may be part of its problem.

Are the fuel lines aged/original? If so time to replace them. Carb been cleaned/rebuilt? If problem persists, might be time to rebuild the fuel pump.

Yep, I'm thinking weak fuel pump. Charge up the system and remove the fuel line at the carburetor. Put the end of the line in a jar and start the motor. After the motor starts, you should see the fuel pump start filling the jar. If not, replace the fuel pump.
