Anybody have a good way of adding remote control to the choke on an 8hp Nissan OB? I added remote throttle and shift which work fine. But the choke still needed to be set manually. I jerry rigged a choke cable to it, but once open the choke sticks and often won't close without my doing it manually. What is making it stick? I even added a spring to help draw it closed, but it still sticks. (attached picture shows spring on throttle, that was the only way to keep throttle from sticking when closing) Any idea how to lubricate it so it won't stick? Would you recommend removing the little spring that sets it?

You buy the new carburetor that is designed for the remote model engine.

100% right. The EP (remote) model carb's choke plate turns in the opposite direction, and is relieved so the motor can start when the choke plate is fully closed (it has a small "window" cut into it to allow some air when closed), and is designed for the electric choke solenoid. The correct part would be 3V2031333M, CARBURETOR, F9.8A2/A3 (P), $211.49, which will have the added benefit of increasing the power to 9.8 hp. Then you can go with the 3V1760500M CHOKE SOLENOID, $56.68, and mount it using the 3V1760781M BRACKET, CHOKE SOLENOID, $33.85, and a few additional linkage bits.

Awesome...will do. By the way, I'm the boater who mounted his outboard like an inboard...through the hull...has worked flawlessly all summer!

Where can I find an exploded parts diagram for solonoid choke and bracket?

Forgive me if I'm wrong...but I don't see the solonoid...

Hi Plandeck,

Check parts 15-10-11, base, plunger and solenoid. Congrats, nice to read that your sailboat/engine installation performed flawlessly. Phsical experimentation as opossed to plain theory is key way to go. Inventiveness is always welcome.
