Re: 89 TS 650

This baby has been around a while. How many hours of WOT has it endured? What are the cylinder pressures? Could there be a plugged fuel filter?
Make sure there is nothing binding in the pump. Some pumps generate enough corrosion that the clearances tighten up and bind the pump.
Charlie

Re: 89 TS 650

CF,

I am getting the carb rebuilt, and some new reed valves. I hope this does it! The compression is good. I do not know the hours, but everything that I have taken apart has been very clean, no rust or corrosion of any kind. I am taking it to my local dealer just to be sure that I have a trouble free summer!

Thanks much,
David

Re: 89 TS 650

Bullet proof is a good thing! Have you owned one?
This one is a second ski. I have yet to be on it.
I bought it from Ebay last fall from out of state.
Oh what fun I had getting it titled, but we got through it. Once I get the bugs worked out from sitting around, I hope to have years of fun out of it. It is still solid, and seems like it should have some life left in it.

Thanks, I've always wanted Jet Ski's!

Yes I own a 95 model. They made them from 89-96. I have had nothing but good luck out of mine. I bought it from a guy who really took care of his stuff so I just lucked up and found one that had been treated right ya know but i'm sure there are some ts's out there that look and run terrible. All in how you take care of them. But goog luck getting the kinks out of the Ts and keep us updated on how it does on the water. One more thing, its not a speed demon by any means but if you want to get out on the water instead of sitting on the dock then who cares right? Also watch the gas, the tank is kinda small and mine drinks gas like water so be carefuL. See ya

DSGB2000,

I think I've finally got most of the kinks out of my TS. I runs good & sounds like a champ. It is back to stock except for a SS impeller. It was a dog until I changed it, it couldn't get out of its own way.
I went through about a half a tank of gas of just motoring around at about half throttle or better for close to two hours. I think my tank is around 5 gallons. For such a small & light craft it went through a small chop rather well. I was quite impressed with the old technology It doesn't dig in on the turns, but she is a flat bottomed girl.

My wife was happy that I've got the old TS off the trailer & making waves of its own for a change. I will enjoy the rest of the summer the way it is. Next it's time to freshen up the paint for this winters project.

Hope you all have time to get out on the water!

Enjoy,
David Kana

Re: 89 TS 650

Just sold a 90 ts, to upgrade to a 94 ss750. the ss is a lot faster, but I miss the ts. it was so stable and agile. I never fell off or flipped it. I rolled the ss just sitting still when a little wake hit me. So far I like the kawasaki's a lot better than the seadoo's or yamaha's i've had.

Re: 89 TS 650

For the age & style of the platform it is pretty stable. It just looks old in comparison to the new ski's that are out there. It does a fairly good job of going through the waves. The weight to HP ratio are OK, I just wish it had at least a gas level indicator.

Is it a safe idea to keep an extra gallon of spare gas in a seperate plastic tank in the storage compartment?

Make waves, not war,
Dave Kana

Re: 89 TS 650

I would say not a great idea. Any container would have to be airtight to keep fumes from getting into the hull. Gas sealed in a container would get really shook up in a ski and try to expand, causing a lot of pressure to build up in the container. Not a safe situation.
Just use the reserve switch and head back for shore once you get on reserve.

Re: 89 TS 650

I agree I used to keep a can of start fluid in my ski, One day I noticed that the can had rusted and lost all it's either , that could have been a bad situation and I nolonger carry any flammable substances in the ski accept what is in the tank, I would just add fuel to it during the day, any time I intend to go for a lengthy ride I top off the tank from the gas cans I carry in my trailer box I bring 4-6 gallon cans and fill them before I get to the water, I don't use those up in one day but I have them just in case I decide to ride all day. Now I need an armed guard to protect them when I leave the beach with the price going up every 5 minutes.

Re: 89 TS 650

yeah running out of gas in those things isnt hard. I learned the hard way about 2 weeks after I got it. The reserve doesnt last long at all. I ended up getting towed back by a yamaha waveraider and got the rooster tail shot back down on me the whole way back but how could I complain when he saved my tail!!

Re: 89 TS 650

want to see people who solve the fuel problem, go to www.pwcalaska.org click on the main page and the pictures will change each time you do, it looks like they are prepared for a gas shortage and they don't need ice in the coolers
