'89 tohatsu 40 hp ?

OK gents,,,this is the deal.
Just put this motor in the water on a 12 1/2 ft avon inflatable.
Idles rough and low,motor keeps dying when I power down throttle?
otherwise runs good?
what are proper carb jet settings to 'fool' with?
should I be looking at something else ?
in the future,,,when I can afford it,,,is there still a 'manual' I can get?
is there something 'on-line' I can download ?

Welcome to iboats. I had a little luck searching for a manual for your o/b From your description i am assuming you have model M40C or D (the only 40hp produced in 89) The shop manual is out of print but you can go Here and order a reprint of the original book. Good Luck

Yea,,,its a 'M40C.
But heres the prob....I'm a Remodel Contractor in San Diego,,,as you might be aware of,,,the industry is in the toilet right now! I'm doing handyman stuff
just trying to make rent !!! purchasing anything is ?????

Purchasing a Factory manual is saving expenses, unlike buying an aftermarket manual. Proceeding without one isn't typically advised.

Funny you say that when the info I provided came from the tohatsu website and a direct link to HelmInc. Regardless you need to get the manual it is a necessity to the proper repair and maintenance of your O/B.
