When motor is cold, I can crank it and it runs and idles great with no pee. Then once it warms up, and I'm guessing when the thermostat opens, it begins peeing steam, then the motor won't idle at all. I pulled the lower unit and the impeller is fine. I just replaced the oil seal, and cleaned some debris from the pee hole. There were some bits of leaves in the pee hole and in the water jackets in the under oil seal.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'd start by looking for more leaves, you have a flow restriction somewhere ...

ok, thanks. I'm a learn as you go kinda guy. Where do I start looking. Do I have to get into the inlet case? (hoping you say no cause I just put it all back together after the oil seal :(

Might try pulling the thermostat, but locate a replacement gasket before doing so ...

10-4. I'm using permatech for the gaskets because most are obsolete. Do you think that the overheating is causing the motor to not run when warm?

Ok, so took thermo off and ran water in the hole. pee came out fine. Did have a crack in what I believe is a sensor about 6" below the thermostat on the back, so epoxied it up.

Dropped the lower unit and shot water up the tube and it pee'd fine. Double checked the impeller again, and all looks well. Have to head to church, so tomorrow I will test it and see.

If indeed the thermostat is bad, can you just pull it and let the water flow?

Thanks

You can, but it's designed to have one for a reason. Replacement Mallory kit 9-43101 is available right here on 'Boats, as well as any Mallory supplier ... ;)

Thanks. I'm a Mr Fixit, but no mechanic, so I appreciate the advice pointing me. God Bless

Re: 89 suzuki dt25 peeing steam

ok, so an update... I ran it today with the thermostat out just to see if it would allow the water through and nothing. Removed the thermostat cover while it was running and no water at all. I know the impeller is good, the holes around the impeller are clean, and the hose that runs from the impeller to where the oil seal is are clean. So it is somewhere between the oil seal and the thermostat. I do not know what it looks like in there, so any help appreciated.

EDIT: I also shoved a hose into the inlet at thermostat where the water comes in, shot water down, and it did come out below the prop where it is supposed to, but it also came out around the prop and inside (exhaust) of the prop. Is it supposed to do that?

Thanks
