I have recently purchased a '89 sunbird with 4.3L OMC. (Yeah, I'm a boat newbie) The trim gage has never worked, I discovered that the two wires from the sending unit on the drive are cut shortly after they enter the hull. I was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram so that I can re-wire this thing. Once that is completed, I will be able to see if I need to replace the existing gage and/or sending unit. Thanks for any help in advance. Any info regarding troubleshooting the resistance of the sending unit will be greatly appreciated as well.

Hi Allen, welcome to the forum.

If you'll tell me which outdrive you have, I'll see what I can find in my manual.

Clymers prints a wiring diagram manual based upon engine and drive make/size/year. If your local library is worth a spit, you should be able to find it there.

Allen...the OMC Cobra sender should be approx 10ohms in the down position and around 170 in the up position. The wires you have that are cut normally plugged into a connector at the rear of the engine, 1 wire went to ground and the other went to the dash for S terminal on the guage. Check the resistance first, if it's no good then you need a new sender (approx $80-90). Here is a link that may help you Trim Info
