Hey all,

Newbie here just getting my sea legs........

I have an older Mariner 15 with a slightly bend propshaft.

Anybody care to walk me through what's involved with re/re the shaft so that I can straighten it?

Cheers,

C

Remove the prop and hardware, remove the carrier and brg assm, the shaft will then pull out and can be straightened

Re: '89 Mariner 15 hp Propshaft Removal

Hey all,

I finally got to it and removed carrier assy after making the tool.

I had a slightly bent propshaft and managed to get it back to within 5 thousand. The prop looks like it wobbles a bit though. Is this normal or do all props do this a bit?

Secondly, should I apply a bit of lok-tite to the carrier assy threads? it looks as though there was some kind of compound on there when I removed it. Does that little pin just slip back into the leading end on the shaft when re-installing?

Many thanks,

C

Most props have a slight wobble in the slip hub. No loc-tite you would never get it apart agian, Merc recommends perfect seal

Thanks Laddies,

Agreed, Loc-tite (removable) is what I had in mind.

What is Perfect Seal? Is that a generic or product name?

Forget using any type of Loctite on the carrier. Like Laddies mentiond, you woldn't get it back apart. Just the amount of surface are with the removable (Blue I would assume) type, it wouldn't come apart.
Perfect Seal is a Merc Product, similar to this.

Should be able to find it at most any NAPA
