I'm a amateur boater. Just got an 89 Johnson VRO 70 horse motor. When I bought the boat the oil reservoir was about 1/4 full. It ran great and didn't smoke at all. I filled it the other day to the full line. Now it seems to smoke more than normal from the exhaust. Could it be because of the different brands of oil? I put Quicksilver in over what the previous owner said was a high quality 2 stroke oil. It still runs great but just smokes a little. Thanks for any suggestions!! :)

beginner,

I wouldn't worry about it.

However, when your tank gets low again, clean it out.

Remove it, dump the oid oil, replace the filter ssock and start with fresh.

Don't forget to mix 50:1 premix until you verify oil useage.

Thanks for the advice djohns!! When you say that I should premix until I verify oil usage you mean mix it in the fuel until I verify that the oil injection system is working? Also, when you say replace the filter ssock, where exactly is that? In the oil reservoir? Again, thanks!!

Beginner,

Right on both questions.

Mix 50:1 until you verify oil use.

The filter sock is in the tank.
