Where is the thermostat located on this engine, it is not above the spark plugs on each cylinder bank? Is it below the flywheel and if so do you have to remove the flywheel to replace. Please email with some answers

Hi, Tugted.

Have you considered a Repair Manual?

Few pro wrenches will work on an unfamiliar engine without one.

http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html

Good luck. :)

Tug....if you look to the bottom of the exhaust cover, the flat cover on the back of the engine, you will see an oblong shape box with hoses going to each head. The t-stats are in there. And do get a manual as JB suggested. Will save bunches of guess work.

Hello
if this is a bubble back 110 then you may wish to let a pro tackle this one. if the bolts come out easy it takes me about 2 hours and usually one extra gasket. these t-stats are very diffiocult to access. I usually open up the bypass hole in the plastic housing as well as making sure the t-stats are the self flushing WITH vent holes. the whiz bang stainless ones that OMC sells no longer have vent holes. in some of the crossflow v-4's the hot water cannot get to the tstats until after the hot horn has sounded. a classic symptom is the motor idles for 5 min then alarms. shut it off wait 5 min and restart and no more problems until the motor is cold again.

Rodbolt,

A small notch cut in the tapered seat on the white pressure relief valves vents the system quickly and easily. Use a triangular file and make it about 1/16" wide and deep. The grooves also help drain the cavity when that tiny hole in the center of the plate plugs up.
