Re: 89 gamefisher 14' mod v aluminum boat total weight capacity

Hi jstark. Welcome to iboats. Most 14' aluminum boats that size, mine included, are usually rated for 4 (150 lb) people at the absolute most, but are usually most comfortable with 2 and gear. The maximum motor capacity is probably < 40hp for an old, relatively light weight, 2-stroke outboard and around 25 -30hp for heavier, modern, 4-stroke motors. Ho do you plan on setting her up? Any pics? I converted my little seim-V into a tiller skiff of sorts. Nothing fancy, but she gets the job done.

thanks for the response, I have removed the middle bench and put a floor in and built a casting deck once I am happy with it I will put carpet in... right now I am working on a platform to mount my bow mounted trolling motor and once I get that done I want to drop her in the water to see how she floats.. I don't have pics but plan on taking some, I got the idea from another member and plan to pretty much copy what he did. thanks again for the help...

There are 14 ft boats and there are 14 ft boats.A brief look up I found 14 footers that ranged from 13'6" to 14'3"
Beam from 55" to73" max weight range from 675 to 1020 lbs. Most rated for 4 people but passenger weight ranged from 525 to 660.
Those with a beam under 60" were rated at 15 hp The longer with wider beams max weight ranged from61" beam @ 824 to
a little over 1000lbs @ 67 - 73".Removing the seat may have weakened the hull note any flexing.
On my 18 foot utility I removed the gunnel to seat braces temporarily and the boat turned into a noodle.
If you have a casting deck at the bow you may have to be careful moving around. Some boats are very sensitive with weight near the edges near the bow.Don't forget to include the weight of your changes and the motor in your weight estimates.
Good luck with your mods.

I'd try it without the casting deck first. Standing on the floor will be more stable and save a fair amount of weight. I don't like standing in my 14' aluminum boat because it's too easy to lose your balance when you step toward the side and it tips; it won't tip over but it's enough to dump you.

I can see the advantage of a big deck up front on a wide, heavy bass boat. But they're a lot more stable on the water than a narrow, light aluminum semi-v.
