Was running the motor wide open, started to lose power and eventually lost power and shut off. Why It shut off there was a small amount of smoke that smelled like something was burnt when it came out of the cover. Not much smoke at all though. When we tried to turn the motor over It cranked right away but immediately shut off and we lost all electrical components on the boat. Any ideas???

With the indication of smoke and smell of burning insulation or electrical component, did anybody bothered to investigate visually? Obviously, with those indication something electrical burned and the best people to know that will be those who are onboard and operating the boat. I applaud Mitzysman for trying but did anybody even tried removing the cowl to look? However, if you do not know what is burnt, my guess will be the rectifier/regulator.

Compression and a spark check is the first things you do for troubleshooting.
If it smelled hot?? Check the overheat system. Ground the temp sender and see if the buzzer sounds off.
