You should check for a spun prop first. Draw a line on the prop to the prop nut with a permanant marker and when it slips see if the line is still straight. If it is not you need your prop fixed or replaced. If line is straight chances are your clutch and forward gear are worn. The only tools you will need are a service manual and possibly a harmonic balancer to remove the bearing cage. If you get the thing torn apart a machine shop may be able to reface the dogs on the clutch and the forward gear. It would be a lot cheaper then replacing them. If they cant be repaired you may want a pro to install them for you. I believe the gear needs to be shimmed correctly or it will wear out again.
