I have an 89 Evinrude XP 150 that will not turn over. The motor worked fine the last time I had it on the water. I have had the battery load tested and it checked out good. I have replaced the ignition switch and the starter solenoid with no change. I have checked the wiring on the boat side and it checks good for continuity and voltage. I have good voltage from the battery to the starter solenoid. I feel that the problem is on the engine side, I did check the one fuse that I found and it is good. The other problem that started at the same time is the power tilt and trip will not work. I replaced the relays and it still does not work. I'm not sure if the two problems are related or not.

You can test the starter by jumping it with automotive jumper cables and a known good battery. If the starter works normally-that's good. Likely the fuse is blown on the powerhead. It's a small 20 amp glass fuse on the side of the block in the main ignition harness. Check the two ends of the fuse holders to make sure they are not corroded.

Likely your battery ground cable is bad or has hidden corrosion where it connects to the engine block. A hand multimeter cannot detect this without and under-load voltage drop test.

Go to "why won't it start" in the Top Secret file^^^ for troubleshooting.

Would this fuse cause the problem that I'm having with my power tilt and trim too?

I'll check the ground cable at the engine when I get home. Thanks.

If the fuse blows, the entire engine will seem dead. Only power to the solenoid.

Thanks to everyone for your inputs, discovered a shorted ground. Fixed the wire and she fired right up.
