89 evinrude 60hp rough idle/slower top end

over heat alarm came on 2 times put new water pump in. the old one was still good,took out thermostat for now til get new solved overheat i think ,but wont idle very well.130 compression ea. cylinder ,plugs are wet,sprayed stater fluid on outside motor to check for leaks no high idle from that, could it be electrical,lower unit grease clean no metal or burnt,took carbs off check floats and needle clean there too

It probably won't idle well with the T-stat out, nothing unusual. Are you saying that it still overheats with a new pump kit?

no it does not with t stat out ordered new t stat has not came in yet also changing prop to 14x13 instead 14x17 is the t stat that important to idle

Just like your car, the engine operates at an optimal temperature which is determined by the thermostat. Too cold it runs rough, too hot it runs like a bandit -- until it seizes. When you had the carbs apart, you should have totally disassembled them, soaked them in carb cleaner, blown them out with compressed air and reassembled with new kits. The fact they were removed means link & sync probably is now required. Don't ask how to do it -- the process is far too long to type here. You need a service manual specific to your engine. Check your local library if you don't want to buy one.

just cleaned the float area did not remove link keep them together with a bolt flange
