Re: 89 Bayliner Force L Drive removal question
I don't know for sure on the L-Drive, but on the regular outboards, there is a layer of silicone sealant between the bottom adapter plate and the lower unit. Once you unbolt the power head, it can take quite a bit of prying to get the two separated. I've used a single edge razor on one corner to cut through the bead of silicone to get things started. Once you get that seal broken loose, the power head or block comes right off.
Just to repeat....there is an "adapter plate" bolted to the bottom of the block. Do not try to pry between the adapter plate and block. The adapter plate is bolted to the block from underneath. You have to pry between the bottom of the adapter plate and whatever the adapter plate is sitting on. The adapter plate has the water fitting that feeds the cooling water from the water pump to the block. Be careful that you don't break off an ear on the block where ever prying at.
You may find some splines on what is essentially is a drive shaft attached to a U-Joint assy. on a mounting plate under the power head.
