How hard is it to get a 85 hp force L Drive out of the boat....power head that is? Other than removing exhaust lines and such. Once you unbolt the motor mounts does it pull right out? Is it like a flywheel under there with splines on the drive shaft?

Tips and tricks to an easy pull would be much appreciated.

I don't know for sure on the L-Drive, but on the regular outboards, there is a layer of silicone sealant between the bottom adapter plate and the lower unit. Once you unbolt the power head, it can take quite a bit of prying to get the two separated. I've used a single edge razor on one corner to cut through the bead of silicone to get things started. Once you get that seal broken loose, the power head or block comes right off.

Just to repeat....there is an "adapter plate" bolted to the bottom of the block. Do not try to pry between the adapter plate and block. The adapter plate is bolted to the block from underneath. You have to pry between the bottom of the adapter plate and whatever the adapter plate is sitting on. The adapter plate has the water fitting that feeds the cooling water from the water pump to the block. Be careful that you don't break off an ear on the block where ever prying at.

You may find some splines on what is essentially is a drive shaft attached to a U-Joint assy. on a mounting plate under the power head.

So once I unbolt it and get the plate separated, it should pull right up. No cartoon crap like springs and bearings flying everywhere?

Nope, pretty simple. At least with the regular outboards it is. I can't think of any issues you night have with the L-Drive. Let us know how you make out.

Just picturing the "cartoon crap" made me laugh and that`s quite a feat this early in the morning.

3rdtime....it had me chuckling when I wrote it and to see it made someone else I am glad. If you read all the Force negative stuff....the top it with an L Drive....ugh...but I am going to clean out all the rubber from the previous owner and I think I will be golden. This years Bay Scallop season in the Gulf of Mexico is coming to a close....probably gonna miss it!
