engine was not getting spark and when manually rotating engine the distributor only moved 90degrees with one rev. pulled distibutor and found that the gear in the engine that drives distributor is partially stripped. in process of pulling engine but was looking for input as to ideas of what would cause this so i know of some things to look for.

was able to pull engine out of boat and i am in the process of tearing into it. i have the part out that drives distributor and also drives fuel pump but i am having trouble locating it does any body have a link or place to find this part. i am going to replace timing belt at same time and check oil pump and if able replace that too.

Don't know what engine you have because it was never stated. If it is a Volvo 2.3, this engine was also used in many cars. You may be able to use the automotive version of the part. Some engine parts can be interchanged with automotive ones, the parts that cannot are ignition and fuel related.

Have a great day,

Rob.

That's a Ford OHC engine. Very common in Mustang, Mustang II, Ranger from about 1973 to mid nineties, with a distributor.

The marine application may have a different distributor drive gear-unknown but easy to check.

You can find the engine listed in Ford Power Products.

You can find a Power Products Distributor here:

Have the dist. checked for bushing wear.

Most likely, the timing belt snapped at one point.

had distributor checked for beqring wear and it is good. the engine is a 2.3l ford. i can get the shaft that drives the distributor but am having trouble finding the races that go in the engine for it. tried all the links i could just to see they are NLA.
