89 3.0 merc. will not start

I have a 1989 3.0 merc. that will not start, will not hit a lick. I put a new starter and before I put it on it started and one day out on the lake the starter went out, when I put the new one on it turns over strong but will not fire, I have put new plugs in it the first of summer. I am getting gas in the carb, but dont know where to start??? Any help???? Thanks alot

When was the last tune up done? When was the plug wires changed.Are the plug wires seated all the way? You connect the coil wire when you changed the starter left a wire off maybe?

Yes I hooked everything back and today I put a new cool on there too, and still not starting but like always still cranks strang. So I dont know where to go now. Any help please? Thanks alot

You need to be more descriptive than "starts strange" and need to answer the questions you were asked up above.

I have it the distrib. had a crack and now I have bought one and that fixed my prob...thanks everyone for your help!!!!
