Had the boat out the last several days and had a new issue that I need to pin down. I will explain what was happening and then give my thoughts on what I think the problem might be.

So, the boat seemed to be running fine at the start of the day on day 1. After cruising around and baiting some jug lines when trying to get up to speed ~25mph or so the engine would start cutting out/missing and bogging down a bit. Couldn't reach normal speed. Idle seemed to be no problem at all engine ran and sounded fine. After anchoring for a while we started back up and boat got to speed perfectly fine. No bog or miss.

This intermittent problem persisted on and off for day 2 as well, day 3 we mostly just cruised around 25mph the entire time and never had a problem.

#1 possibility I think is the points. I already had the boat out earlier this year, but it was covered for several weeks and the points were fouled, wouldn't start. I took them off, used some 2000 grit sand paper and cleaned them up. Regapped them and boat started right up.

I think maybe the points are still a little gunky? Could this cause an intermittent issue though?

#2 possibility bad gas? Again not sure why it would be intermittent and not happen at all on day 3. Running on the same gas all the time. The gas was only a few weeks old. We ran it almost empty and added stabilizer over the winter.

#3 Carb issues? I have only had the boat 2 years now and have not done anything to the carb at all. Could there be some issue there that could cause this type of problem? I had a boat in the past that the carb would choke out for a second when giving throttle quickly, but would pick up and run smoothly.

#4 Plugs? Have not changed them, going to pick some up and change them when I change the points out.

So, am I on the right track. Any other possibilities?

Thanks for any help!
