I have been having problems with a poor idle on my 1994 Johnson 140hp (among other things).
Motor has been in and out of shop for 3 yrs now having many things replaced: new powerhead (from 1outboard.com), powerpack, sensor ring, plugs etc but they could never fix idle problem (carbs removed, cleaned and replaced twice).
Finally, my new mechanic has determined its the carbs (maybe warped ?) and has swapped out carbs for a set from his 89 120hp to prove it. He is thinking they should be OK, motor runs very well at WOT and idle. Now pulling similar HP at WOT on dyno as before.
Question: Is it safe to run with these carbs ? Throat's are slightly smaller but they fit properly onto throttle body. He is using originals 140hp reeds. Can I damage heads or pistons ? It could save me lots of money....
I understand these engines are very similar..
Thanks
Rich
