So...Another thing I was wondering about. I serviced the lower unit about a week ago, now...and well. On the side opposite the drain screw on the l/u there is a small hole. It is most certainly a factory designed relief or drain. Bout the diameter of a ballpoint pen tip. I noticed today that a few drops of gear oil are leaving the hole. Why? I installed new seals and vent seal rings. Ideas... Thank you in advance. :)

It is indeed a drain hole... but for water, not oil..... There are a few places that oil could be getting there... You need to drain the drive, remove it (either order, doesn't matter) and pressure test the drive....

Re: 888 Outdrive

So, dig this. I ended up splitting the lower half of the outdrive. Ended up replacing the shift shaft seal and cleaning the shift shaft as there was some light corrosion at the very top. Also, went ahead and replaced the main drive spline seal since I was in there. Light grease on the lip of both seals...Filled with drive oil/gear lubricant. Wasn't leaking when I left the shop. Will check later this week when the mercury climbs to 95 F. It was heat induced before. Pray to God it doesn't start those shenanigans any more.
