Hi Guys,
I have a 43 ft 88 Wellcraft Portifino. We just R&R d the reverse rotation engine and are refilling the cooling system. Its a closed system. Weve put over 12 gallons of coolant in and its asking for more. The water level is showing 1 inch from the top. We hade the risers off and are thinking maybe we put the sqaure gaskets on wrong. Water is not going in the oil as its still clean, and we dont see an unusual amount water coming out the side of the boat. Does this boat have an unussually large coolant capacity? Are we blowing water out the exhaust? Are the gaskets on wrong?HELP

Re: 88 Wellcraft Portifino Cooling Issues

Thanks Guys for the help. Weve put Im sure more than 12 gallons. Where the risers bolt up to the head theres the exhaust gasket. Then theres a square/slightly retangular gasket which has a hole in the center for the exhaust, it also has 4 slotted holes on the outside perimeter for some kind of cooling. There were 4 gasket combinations. One with 4 slots, one with 2 slots and one with 2 slots and 2 pee holes. Im not sure if Im making sense but I appreciate the help cause Im lost.

Really, download manual #9 and look in the "exhaust" section. It's very well explained which gaskets and restrictor plate combos you need. Make sure you're looking at your engine size, and read all of the notes.......

A closed system (full system) usually includes the manifolds with the coolant
.A block-off plate is used to keep the coolant in the system and the water from the heat exchanger is plumbed directly to the risers. Do you have the maifolds in the FWC system or are they raw water cooled?
Max 4 gal for the block and maybe 1 gal for both manifolds.
