I have another question.
I just got the motor last year and rebuilt it, top 2 cylinders were dead. I started it and it seemed to run very hot so I replaced the water pump and that seemed to work. I've had it out a few times and my high temp alarm has been going off, I noticed that the stream out of the telltail looks very sporadic again, not a solid stream. I have now removed the poppet valve and everything looks fine but I will replace some parts this weekend. I also noticed in rebuilding it that the previous owner removed the thermostats and I'm still running without them.
I also read a story about a similar problem and he found out that the exhaust gasket was leaking. While checking parts drawings of my motor #OB304312, it shows a "PLATE, COWL MOUNTING (OYSTER)" between the power head and exhaust.! I know this plate is not on my motor, could I be missing it.? Or are these parts list very generic and thats just for another motor.?
Any other thoughts to my over heating problem.? I'd like to put the stat's back in but don't want restrict the water much more....
