I am still getting alot of excessive smoke at startup. Have changed to champion plugs and ram oil in hopes this would help. I also have replaced with two rebuilt vro from dti. I was running 50:1 premix a year ago with the same amount of smoke. Any suggestions, I am going to rebuild the carbs as this is coming up on the time to do so?? I am ok with alittle smoke but I am having alot at startup and also at idle even after a long run. Is there air leaking into the fuel before the carb??? Also When I started them today at idle i trimmed the motor up slightly and the idle increased. What does this mean. I will also decarb this spring to try to help. Compression is good and motors run very well at wot. Any help please would be greatly appreciated.

I will leave the smoke to others - -

On the idle you said "i trimmed the motor up slightly and the idle increased. What does this mean." This is normal and the result of the fuel level in the carb float bowl changing slightly with the trimming. This is a technique that can be used to help motors that cut out due to low idle.

SoLittle, Thanks for the response. Makes sense with th fuel in the carb adjusting. I was not sure if this was related to the smoke or not (ie needle not seating or something?) Thanks again. I am hoping someone can help out with a lead on the smoking.
