'88 Force 15 "Where's the thermostat?"

Dog gone it's been tough trying to find info on this motor!
Anyway this motor has been in the corner of my garage for 12 yrs. Finally determined to get it running come hell or high water.

Enter hell and high water!
Problems were no fire and the carb was roached. I'd cleaned the points really well but no spark. Thought it was the coils, they tested out of spec but talked to a guy that said to polish the points like new and oddly that did it. I get strong fire now! Never saw points act like that before.

As new as the motor looks I was surprised to find a badly corroded carburetor, to the point I needed a replacement. Next thing I learned was you can't find a replacement - ANYWHERE!! But I lucked out after much searching to find a close match - the subject of another post - and it works! I got her running, and running good too!

NEXT PROBLEM - I'm not getting any cooling water coming out of the exhaust. Want to check the thermostat first but can't find it. Can't find a reference to it on the Net or in YouTube video's. I have the service manual but it looks nothing like what I have. So, can someone tell me where this thing is??

The second picture appears to show where it should be.----But folks have been known to leave them out.----Agreed it needs a new impeller after sitting all these years.

OK an impeller. Got it.
Now, can someone tell me where the thermostat is - or was.
The parts breakdown shows it bolting to the lower housing but the actual housing is a one piece deal with the exhaust port cover being part of the housing, and cannot be removed.

lack of flow is from your impeller being smoked.

Franz has pulled me from the fire a few times.....Chrysler/Force is what he does. Great guy....816-966-8085 Tue-Fri 10 to 6 Central time.

No thermo on the 88/15.
The parts diagrams might show it has a place for it but I've never seen one in there.

That's interesting...maybe the thermo shown in the manual is for the 9.9.
The manual covers 88-92 for the 9.9 & 15 so the thermo might be used on later 15's? The manual doesn't specify.
Anyway I'll get to work on the impeller today

It's a factory manual.
I've got the lower off and the impeller looks pretty good after all these years. Looks like I could have flushed the bottom end and got the pump working as there was some trash in the plumbing, but no biggie, I'll feel better inspecting and resealing it.

The vanes can look good but can be soft/weak and not pump enough water.

I won't change it until I go back together with the assembly...
Just because I said it looked pretty good didn't mean I was going to reuse it....give me a little credit here...damn

Yeah you got a point there. I've been wrenching for 47 yrs and seen my share of goofy stuff. None of it I'd take credit for!
