boat: 91 bayliner capri 2000
engine: 88 force 125 (via tag on transom mount brackets)

Has anyone found another manufacturer of outbaord transom mount brackets that will work instead of the no longer available Force ones?

after doing some google-ing it "looks" like mercury might have an interchange, im going to pull the part numbers off of my mounts this evening, and see if i cant get alittle further with good old google.

my issue is this,

BOTH brackets have sheared just above the lower mounting bolts, thus allowing the engine to "lift" when in reverse, Im afraid of doing some serious damage to my vessel by attempting to take it out before fixing this.

Im open to any other DYI suggestions as well.

Thanks!

Not Frank but I'll try????
The transom brackets are available but cost about $300 EACH!!!
Look on the internet.E=bay or Craigslist.
Anyone selling Force parts 85/125/150 som 90/120 might have the brackets.ASK???
They made 2 styles one with the screw down transom mounts and the ones with the 8in bolt.
Make sure you get the right one.
I just replaced the trim cylinder and tilt cylinder on one of my motors.
It was the screw down type.I ended up cuttin it off.
I replaced with the bolt type.BIG JOB!!!

As far as aftermarket and any other brand fitting??? NOT!!!

If memory serves, RRitt has bunches from nonrepairable tilt trim stuff. A PM might help.

Now, Jerry-- I go the other way. I always try to use the clamp-on type. I dislike the long bolt through the clamp mounts. If not properly insulated it sets up a galvanic reaction that will eventually split the transom clamp at the bolt.

However, I did recently pick up a parted out Force 150. I don't know what year it is because the stickers are missing. BUT---The transom clamps are very much like Mercury using four short 1/2 inch bolts and four different mounting positions. The interesting part is that the clamps are drilled to accept the Chrysler/Force 1/2 inch carriage bolt, use a separate mounting hole(s) for the steering tube, AND they accept the five bolt pentagon trim/tilt assembly. So, they will swap onto Chrysler and early force 3 and four cylinder engines.

I am going to use them to retro-fit my recently acquired 150.

I like the through bolt as the salt water eats the round part of the screw clamp.
I also fixed the split with a small bolt and nut.

some of the mercury brackets aren't worth having. the trim pump ends up underwater.

I have the bolt through style, ill continue to do some more digging on flea bay, etc.
i ran across one website (cant quite remember the exact name) something like marine salvage, that listed a merc # with an interchange to Force, I forgot to take a picture of the numbers stamped on the brackets to research today, ill post up tomorrow if i cant actually remember.

Re: 88 force 125 transom brackets

well, Ive got some decent news, while searching the forums on this topic i ran across a rather old thread where a guy took a pc of T6 aluminum and made his own transom brackets, I just so happen to have a buddy at a CnC shop, and he's agreed to cut me some.
Ill make sure to post pics of them for you guys.

Im sure it wont be super fast as its a favor of sorts, and beggars cant be choosers, not to mention i still have to pull them off and spec them out for him... or mail them. any how, im kind of stoked.

What about RRitts offer? It has to be faster and less costly.

Re: 88 force 125 transom brackets

I'm with Frank.
I much prefer the clamp-ons. They suffer less damage from galvanic corrosion than the through bolt. The electrical continuity between transom clamp and anode is via a grease covered pivot bolt. It is inadequate and the through bolt design makes it worse. If you do use the through bolt clamps in saltwater then attach a length of SS rope from clamp to engine block ... or a small plate of zinc to each clamp.

The through bolts are an idea that worked in Michigan but did not travel well to areas with salty or brackish water.

Wow! I had no idea transom clamps were in such hot demand. I have a few 85hp's and 105hp's that could work if RRitt doesn't take care of you. I was just going to recycle them! Most are mid 70's to early Chryler, so you would have to ask RRitt about compatibility with the T&T setup.

Most of the older don't have a hole for the steering.

All I ever saw was trim systems. I did not always know what year or horsepower the clamps came from. I think ... the hole for steering tube seems to be on all 3cyl & larger after 1985? There was a clamp used briefly 1992-1995 that change location of trim pump. All other clamps and engines and trims from 1985-1994 are interchangeable. Parts within a trim are not always interchangeable but complete trims from any year will fit any engine 85-150HP.

I thought i Pm'd him, but it may have been another member, RRitt, if you have a pair of through hole style I'd be interested in entertaining a purchase from you,

tater, same with you, if youve got a set PM me with price please.

thanks fellas.

Ill likely still send my broken ones off to my buddy to mill out, to have a solid set up that i wont have to worry about splitting etc, for quite some time.

I just went through my stash, and Jerry is right about the steering tube. All of my 70's clamps don't have it sorry.

i pm'd back that i did not have any through hole. The ones I have are ones that i kept for personal use. The ocean is all salt water in this part of florida so the only ones I kept were solid style with internal foot.
