Hey guys i got a 1988 175 horse yamaha that had a new power head put in in 08 (i spoke to the mech that did it) before i got it i still checked compression and its pretty much 120 on all cylinders, when i test drove it it idled perfect even though it was rev up and the prev owner told me it had been sitting for a year so when i got home i put that statron, took it out today and it won't idle unless i push the choke when i take of sometimes it hessitates sometimes it don't at high rpms it runs perfect, i tried it at wot to see the speed and it pushed that boat at 39 mph a 88 21 ft cc proline with a deep v and a t-top i was impressed, anyways do you guys think it might be dirty carbs causing the stalling at low rpms? Its going to the mech this week but would love to know your opinions.

Thanks and be safe out there.

Any time using the choke seems to clear up the problem means Carb issue. Your idle circuit is restricted.

My C90 started shutting off while idling, so I carefully removed each idle jet needle(recording turns out from lightly seated), sprayed carb cleaner into each hole, replaced jet needles....and it fixed it!....might be worth a try....and save you $$$$ at the dealer!....
