finally got time to work on my '88 125hp.
the motor has been sitting for a while a few years.
was able to check compression results...
1-140
2-140
3-140
4-135
what are the ideal readings?
what do you guys do when you get a used motor that has sat for a period of time?
thanks...

You have excellent compression readings.

I usually spray some oil into the cylinders, let it sit a while, then try to start it. Run it a few minutes, then shut it down.

Next, perform all maintenance.
Gear lube change with new seals on the screws.
Grease all fittings and other lube points.
Remove all sparkplugs and examine, making sure none are running lean on fuel and lubrication.

Replace water pump impeller, thermostat, rebuild fuel pump and carbs.
