87 V I P Vision will not run in foreword

First timer here , have a vision with a 2.3 ford and o m c, strarts good, rev,s great in reverse go as fast as you dare , shift to foreword wants to stall can get maybe 5 mph . Checked for fuel problem, not, seems more like shifter/electric problem.........any ideals

Hello and welcome aboard. Does your shift setup have an ESA module? If so it could be activated while in forward, causing havoc with the ignition, although the ESA is "supposed to" cancel itself out after about 10 seconds. Does the problem in forward occur immediately when it goes into gear or is there a delay?

The ESA doesn't cancel itself out unless the ESA has been changed to the updated version which came out after 1990. Easiest thing to do is unplug the ESA to see if the problem still exists. The engine barely runs at all if the ESA is stuck on. Just realize that you may need to turn the motor off to get the drive out of gear with the ESA disconnected.

If the shift switch is being depressed when you shift into forward, you have a bad shift cable. That shift switch should never get actuated while going into gear.

I found problem, interrupter switch on shift fork has when bad. Thanks for all the help. Yo
