Hi all, new to the forum and first post. I have a short shaft 7.5hp Mercury thunderbolt (1975ish) I want to use as a kicker. Does anyone have advice for a good kicker plate? If anyone has mounting guidance I’d appreciate that too. With a tall transom and the short shaft kicker mounting seems like it’ll be tricky.

Buy a retractable Panther bracket. Mount it on the transom with SS bolts and a metal backer plate. Seal the holes with 5200. Position the bracket so that in the down position the Kicker's prop will be below the boat.

With the height of your transom you might find the short shaft motor too short to be used easily unless it has electric start and remote throttle.
