Hi, y'all. Can anybody tell me how the shift lever works? My 77 Marquis lever pulls out from the side of the boat to rev engine out of gear. Is it the same with the Seville? The Seville lever has multiple buttons, I don't know what they do. I'm new to these modern (post 1965) boats. I dragged the Marquis prop through a sand bar on her first time out because I couldn't figure out how to raise the drive unit. That was after I launched the boat without putting in the drain plug! Thought it was "ready to go" after getting an affirmative response from the marina when I asked if it was "ready to go"

I checked the Sea Ray site's archived manuals. All they said was that control operation varies slightly by model and engine, with no further info. Thanks!

Nevermind... I hauled the critter to the lake yesterday and figgered out that the button marked "throttle only" means just that if pushed in in conjunction with lifting the lever under the top of the handgrip portion of the control stick. The buttons marked bow up, etc. I assume raises and lowers the prop, though I was unable to test that theory as the battery was dead and wouldn't turn over the motor,

You're right about the "throttle only" button. The upper switch on the lever raises (push up), or lowers (push down) the outdrive to trim the boat. The limit switches on the outdrive limit the motion of outdrive to prevent putting the universal joint into an unhealthy angle- it works best right at 90 degrees, but works fine +- a few degrees. The trailering button raises the outdrive as far as it will go, not limited by the "up" limit switch. You don't want to run the motor with the outdrive fully up.
