You guy's have been so informative so far, I am hoping someone has a manual (gave mine to the guy buying my motor). THe issue is I need to adjust my shift rod length but don't have the correct adjustment. I had a mechanic tell me it should be 27 13/32 for my 25in shaft. If I try to go that far, the rod comes loose and out so I doubt that is the correct shift height adjustment. Yes I am measuring from the top of the housing. If anyone has the book, can you please respond. It is a 1987 Evinrude 225 with a 25in shaft. I am also wondering whether a worn clutch dog could account for the difference in rod height?

Thanks a million! The guy is coming saturday to pick up the motor....just want to be sure it is right. I have dropped it once and reset to 27 3/16 which only leaves a couple of threads holding it. It was very difficult for me to lift and bolt it back in place insuring that the water tube was in place. It does run and shift into reverse but seems a little off as far as engaging in reverse. I hate to have to drop it again but I am afraid that once he gets it in the water, it may not hold in reverse....I had to push it pretty hard on the linkage to keep it in gear at this setting.

Appreciate your usual fine help!

Look in the "Top Secret File" at the top of the page, I think there is a section there on shift rod heights.

The condition of the shifter dog has nothing to do with the shift rod height as pertaining to your question.

1986-87 - 200, 225hp Loop Charged = (L) 21-15/16" - - (XL) 26-15/16" plus/minus 1/32" Have the shift rod on these engines in neutral and facing forward.
