I have a mariner 45hp outboard 2stroke that starts fine but when under load it misses and then stalls out. It will start right up again. Would like to get this fixed before summer does anyone know what may be causing this.

OK, possible culprits:

1. Most likely a carb problem. Search this forum for all the wonderful cleaning/adjustment advise. Hope you have your manual.
2. Spark plugs and ignition issues in general (CDI electronics has good procedures)
3. Power-pack or switchbox issue
4. Check compression
5. Fuel delivery system to include new hoses/bulb, checking fuel tank and vent, fuel line connector (sometimes the o ring fails and lets in air), use Seafoam or Quickleen every couple of tank-fulls.
6. Hope to the God that you pray to its not the stator or trigger as they are expensive and hard to test without a DVA meter.

Is it warm where you are? Can you do some testing without freezing to death like it is here in MD?

Knowing your serial number and year of motor are essential for proper help.

Step # 1 is a compression test.------3 are easy to do , bottom one may be restricted on some models.--Do a proper ignition intensity check too.----The ignition system was engineered / built to be able to jump a gap of 7/16" or more.----Often folks will say that they have " good spark " , not sure why they do not want to do a good test.
