Hello all.

having an issue, pretty sure it's the clutch dog. Just wanted opinions before I dig into it. I was fishing recently and while at WOT, felt a large thump and boat slowed. Was able to run half throttle back to ramp. I have noticed that when turning prop by hand, the link at the top of the lower unit raises when trying to engage the prop. I can feel it "glide" over the gear. Hope that makes sense. Anyways, could it be the cable is stretched out, or can I adjust how far down the shaft gets pressed. If I push it down it engages and holds properly. Thanks for any help

If I remember correctly you can adjust this at the power head. (I may be wrong) Is your cable still in it's clamp on the power head linkage? Check in the morning as other will have answers also.

Good morning and thank you for helping. Yes the cable is still in place by the power head. I did check adjustment of the cable, just seems like it doesn't engage it far enough still

If adjusting the cable connector doesn't give you the extra stretch??
You can try adjusting the shift cable at the shifter.
Or under the bottom carb, the top of the shift rod can be adjusted.
Removal of the plenum(air intake) makes it easier to access the nuts.

Before you do those things, boat in the water. Start and put in gear.
Then undo the linkage and accelerate and try to keep it in gear.
If it doesn't kick out then the rod needs adjusting.
If it kicks out then, the dog is probably worn and need replacement.

The dog can be resurfaced.
If not too bad you might be able to just flip it and use the other side.
