Hi all...back again with a minor problem.

Yesterday I was driving my boat and after about a mile or so of travel the engine just died slowly. It had been warming up for probably 5 minutes before the trip.

It started coughing and within three or four seconds it died. I was only running it slowly at the time, and perhaps at a faster speed it wouldn't do that, I don't know. It refused to re-start.

A friend towed me over to the island where we live.

Today, after towing the boat in on the tide I tried to start the motor. It started within about 5 seconds and let out a pretty big cloud of smoke when it fired up, which it usually does, and it ran at a medium idle for about 10 minutes and then died again. I would say that was about the same length of time that it ran yesterday when it died. Once again, it would not re-start.

It almost sounds as though it dies when it reaches a given engine temperature. I have not had this problem previously.

Once again, your advice will be most appreciated. Thank you.

possibly the stator on ists way out , as it warms up it doesn't generate power , or could be fuel air in the system

yep, stator or maybe coil(s). Feel the coils when it dies to see if one is really hot.

Gentlemen, thank you for your replies. I don't think it is air in the fuel system - although it could be - even if I squeeze the bulb to make sure of fuel being there, it doesn't want to re-start.
I will try again this evening when the tide is in and see what happens. I will leave the engine cover off this time so I can check the coil heat right away.
A coil change would be simple. How easy is it to fix a non operative stator?

The best way to check out your ignition system is to go to CDI Electronics.com and follow their procedures.

you wanna fix it , its cheaper to buy a 2nhd one , if you wanna fix it i tell you how , soak the whole thing in acetone for a couple of days the epoxy will come off then buy the same thickness wire from the armature winders , take the old wire off & measure the same length & take note witch way to wind it back on , when you finished coat it with epoxy
