I have a twin engine boat I recently bought and am fixing up. One engine's alarm doesn't do the self test beeps at key on. Using a jumper I shorted the tan wire at the engine and the alarm does sound so the alarm and wiring are ok. I then disconnected the low oil wire and ran the motor, no alarm. I tested that on the motor that does give the self test and it didn't go off either. I tried with the level sensor wire open and grounded not knowing for sure if it's a N.O. or N.C. switch on the float. Do I have two faulty modules or more testing to do? Is there a time delay before the low level alarm will activate after sensing low oil? I can't find anything definitive in the manual or searching so once again I'm on the "HELP ME" forum.

The switch shorts on low oil, so disconnecting it mimics full oil tank.

On the one that doesn't give you the power on self test beeps, check the purple wire on the module, accessible at the terminal strip, high starboard side, for 12 V with the key on. If that's there, the module is bad.

hope it helps

Thanks J Martin. It does have power at the purple wire. Given that neither sounds when the level sensor is shorted must mean that both are bad? I'll test to see if the motion detector will activate the alarm. I could live with checking the reservoirs periodically 'till I get new modules, no motion alarm would scare me out of using the system.

The engine has to be running for the module to pay any attention to the level sensor. If you short it and start the engine, it'll sound.

To test the system.
1. Verify power.
2. Verify alarm function by grounding the output wire.
3. Verify power on self test. If missing, module is bad.
4. Short the level sensor, start the engine, should sound after a couple of seconds.
5. Reconnect the level sensor. disconnect the motion detector. Start the engine. Should sound in a couple of seconds.
6. Reconnect the motion detector. Disconnect the ignition sample lead. Start the engine. Should sound in a few seconds.
7. Reconnect the ignition sample lead.

BTW, it's all in the book. :D

hope it helps

Unfortunately I only own the book that I learned today is no good, thanks to you guys:) and I can't find that info anywhere in it. Thank you for the help, I hope to test the motion sensor inputs tomorrow. I wanna get this bad boy in the water ASAP and safely.
I'm draining the water from the second tank this evening....full to the top. Got the 3 gallons of phase separated water/alcohol out, now the rest of the gas is coming.
